Aloha and Welcome to The Reef!

The Reef is a community of kind, smart people many of whom find their way here from the Internet TV Show, Beach Walks with Rox. (It's playing in the left column.) In nature, the reef is where animals and plants are alive and thriving in living color! It is the place just off shore from the safety and security of the land, what we think of as the known world. On the other side of the reef is the deep blue sea, where dreams are hatched and the unknown supports us in powerful ways.

We hang out here to have conversations and support about a wide range of topics. Diversity of opinion is welcome. If you are coming to Hawaii, let Shane and Rox know - we try to arrange meetups now and then, especially when visitors are in town.

Susan, of "Susan and my dog Lexie" is our guardian angel, who greets new members and helps keep it friendly here.

Mahalo for stopping by. We look forward to meeting you.

Aloha,

Rox, Shane, and our dog Lexi

Major Antarctic glacier at risk of major collapse - is 'past its tipping point'

Scientists have identified some geological feature in the Antarctic that, combined with already rising sea levels, will cause a sudden collapse sometime in the not-so-distant future. They've identified two specific glaciers in west antarctic that are way past their tipping point beyond which collapse is unavoidable. Their estimate is 50% collapse within the next 100 years.

Collapse of glaciers into the ocean causes sea level rise. The melting of sea ice does not cause sea level rise.… Continue

Travel to Hawaii is Getting Affordable

Just wanted you all to know that hotel and airfare rates to Hawaii are back down to very reasonable. Already two reefers have emailed me this week about pending travel. I thought I would post this link from the Star-Bulletin about lower hotel rates, to tempt a few more of you!

Our home prices are also down like the rest of the USA, so if you are wanting to buy a retirement home, now is a great… Continue

Back on The Reef

Merry Christmas from South Carolina! I have been away a few months and I have missed everyone! My sister moved in with me for a few months while she was transitioning - she has begun her move back out and into a new house. I am so very happy for her that she is going to finally get her life back. I am very happy for myself that I am going to get my life back! My career is going very well; my relationships are strong and happy; my life is still in transition and frankly, I hope I remain transitio… Continue
